The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after recent developments emerged.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a invitation to a demonstration that could facilitate a potential flight.

In a filing authorising the custody, the magistrate said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's aim to disable the tracking monitor to guarantee victory in his escape.

But a seven days after, on the eighth of January, many Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged official structures in the national capital, the capital city.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The magistrates found that the rioters had been incited by him whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, bring back stability and return him to office.
