LA Faces Unprecedented High Temperatures Only Days After Severe Winter Weather.
In the wake of significant rainfall that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with abnormally warm weather for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the mercury reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This easily surpasses the prior high for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were noted on official charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice suggested:
- Staying hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a car.
An Extreme Reversal
This sharp rise in heat follows closely after a massive winter storm that pummeled the region recently. That storm delivered thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to mountainous regions, causing evacuation orders for many residents.

Temperatures Easing
The outlook suggests a cooldown will arrive. Readings were forecast to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in downtown LA by late Friday.
Additional areas that reached the 90-degree mark featured Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to experience the upper eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown Los Angeles can see temperatures in the 80s, with cooler weather on tap for the week ahead.
