Vinted Users Express Displeasure Over Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Reaction
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification than originally posted due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to check their listings and manually change the size where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Previously, the measurements included one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
